WELLCOME TO THE  RAATESALMI FARM / SINCE 1835

The Raatesalmi Farm, used as the Common House of Kuusamo 50 years ago has now a new life. The old buildings are slowly waking up from their long sleep. The Oldest house hides a cosy, traditionl interior of the old times behind its log-walls.The walls ,which are nearly 200 years old have seen a tremendeous amout of different people . The workers used to get together in "pirtti" in the mornings to share the daily work and then again in the evenings  to gather  aroud the fire  to roast onions while telling stories to each other . The baker was living in a tiny room ,which is now transformed to a bathroom, and the tractor man had his bed in the corner of the "pirtti".

We have renovated the Old House with love and  great respect towards the traditional  way of building. Today you can sit down in "pirtti"(the living room), sense the ultimate peacefull and silent atmosphere greated by the strong patinated wooden walls , beautiful hand-glazed old windows looking over the Lake Kuusamo and the fireplace built in traditional local way. Your sleep in the cosy bedrooms is deeper than anywhere else.(That`s what the visiters tell us) And all that surrounded by lovely wiev over the lake and fields! The Horses  are wandering on the fields and chickens are busy finding the best worms on the yard.

The farm used to be self-supporting in the old days. However ,we cant quite reach to that yet, but we do use local products for our cooking. The lake provides fish , berries are picked from the forrest and bread is home-baked!

Jussi , Leena and the family wellcomes you to have  the most unforgettable holyday on the farm.
